School policy
Introduction
The following is the outline of the policies and procedures for the school. A smooth and efficient running of the school requires the constructive cooperation of every person involved. It is assumed that each student and his/her parents will become familiar with, and will adhere to these regulations for benefit of all.
We believe that the contineus parent-teacher communication is the most effective mean to improve the overall experience of the student in the school and to the best way to avoid behavioral or academic difficulties.
In Chicago Persian School:
Books and notes are provided by school
Notebook, pencils, markers, and other related stationary need to be provided from home.
Teachers will be available through email to answer academic related concerns of students and their parents.
Enrichment classes will be offered if enough students sign up. Such classes will take place in the same location following the Farsi classes and may include (but not limited to) Persian Musical Instruments,History of Iran, Persian Dance (ethnic or modern), Persian Choir, Persian Colligraphy. Please contact school officials with your suggestions and interests.
Parents are strongly encouraged to attend the information session in the beginning of the year and continue their involvement with the school and their child’s academic progress. This will assure a more pleasant experience for all of us as a community.
Day Schedule
Classes start at 12:30 pm on Sundays, according to the academic calendar. There are two 60-minute sessions with a 30-minute recess and snack time at 1:30 pm. Adult classes may have different class duration depending on teacher’s recommendation but within the same time frame of 12:30 to 3:00. Regular Farsi lessons end at 3:00 pm and the extra curricular classes start at 3:15 pm.
Homework
Homework is determined by each teacher according to the needs of individual student or class. Please take the homework assignments very seriously as the weekly intervals of our school may easily lead to fading of the learned materials. Farsi is a second language for most of our students and continued practice at home is the only route to ensure a lasting effect.
General Conduct and Discipline
Our goal is to create a positive learning environment within the Chicago Persian School. To that end, students and teachers are required to respect the rights of one another. The Chicago Persian School has a zero-tolerance policy toward verbal abuse or bullying by anyone, children or adults.
Immediate suspension may result from, but is not limited to, the following specific offenses:
Abusive language and/or overt disrespect to teacher(s) or other students;
Dishonesty in any form, including cheating or copying of homework;
Damage to school property and/or unauthorized use of school equipment;
Chronic bullying of peers; ;
Possession of items that are potentially dangerous, such as pocket knives;
Academic conduct and discipline
Students are expected to maintain a positive, cooperative, and respectful attitude both in and out of the classroom.
Each student is responsible for his/her homework.
If the teacher and/or school officials require that a student seek the help of a tutor, a tutor will be arranged and an additional fee will apply.
In rare cases of unacceptable behavioral issues, the student will receive a warning from the teacher and/or school official(s) followed by notification to the parents. At that time, the parents’ presence may be required at the following class or group activity session. Upon the third warning, the student will be removed from the class and/or group activity. Parents' further assistance and involvement will be requested in order to correct the situation and to avoid termination of the registration. Please note that the Chicago Persian School policy requires termination of registration upon the fourth occasion of said unacceptable behavioral issue.
Bringing Items from Home
Parents are strongly advised to prohibit students from bringing to school large amounts of cash and/or other articles of considerable value. Cell phones, pagers, and the like are absolutly d during class time. Students at the Chicago Persian School are absolutely forbidden from bringing tennis balls, racquet balls, baseballs, golf balls, toy guns, knives, matches, lighters, or any articles associated with violence or danger.
Absence
It is strongly recommended that planned absences, such as vacations, be reported to the teacher or principal via email or phone as soon as is feasible Students are responsible for obtaining the missed lesson of the day and completing its corresponding homework..
More than two consecutive absences in one month or more than four absences in one semester can result in termination of the registration. Extreme cases, such as hospitalization, will be considered on an individual basis.
Drop off and Pick up
The Chicago Persian School is not responsible for monitoring the students during the drop off and pick up times. Parents, caregivers and/or designated drivers are responsible for the safety of their children and are expected to exit their vehicle and walk the student across the parking lot both at drop off and pick up time.
Special Events
Chicago Persian School aims at cherishing Iranian culture and heritage through various means. We believe many traditions can be introduced to the children at joyous occasions such as Eid Nowruz. This leaves a positive memory of cultural enrichment in their minds. We plan each year to celebrate certain Iranian holidays, independently or in conjunction with other Iranian organizations in the Chicago area (e.g. Pars Cultural society, Iran House of Chicago). Those holidays include but not limited to Nowruz, Sizdah-bedar, Mehregan, Yalda Night, and Chaharshanbe-suri. We welcome parent’s involvements in planning and preparation of these events.
Dress code and Grooming
Students should wear comfortable and clean clothes. Appropriate and tied shoes must be worn to school. No student is permitted to wear shirts that have printings related to sex, drugs, or violence. Final decision about appropriateness of clothing is made by school officials.
Parent Teacher Conferences
There will be a day of parent teacher conference midway through the school year in January to communicate the progress and learning remark of your child. Please be sure to schedule an in-person or over-the-phone appointment with your child’s teacher. Regular communication with teachers during school year regarding your child’s academic experience is strongly encouraged.
Fire Alarm
It is assumed that all children attending Chicago area schools have already been introduced to basic fire drill procedure. In case of a fire event, students will be guided outdoor and fire fighter’s advice will be followed.
